Coming Soon: Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook

Microsoft Dynamics GPWith an expected release date of June 2013, the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook is to be released.

This is an update to the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 by Mark Polino, which was released three years ago. With the new version of Dynamics GP 2013 being released in December last year, it was time for a new version of the book to be written and with Mark was otherwise engaged writing the Building Dashboards with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 and Excel 2013 so Packt Publishing approached me and asked if I would write the update.

So, in June this year the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook by Ian Grieve and Mark Polino will be released;

Review of Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications – Part 5

Microsoft Dynamics GPI started reviewing Leslie Vail’s book, Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications, which was published at the end of December by Packt Publishing, a few weeks ago. To do this review I decided to take a read through and complete all the examples she gives on developing an application as I’ve only had very limited experience with Dexterity;

Today, it is time for part 5 of my review where I look at Chapter 6: Deploying a Dexterity Solution where Leslie covers the following key topics:

  • System requirements
  • Versions and builds
  • Table creation routines
  • Completing the application
  • Creating the chunk file
  • Testing in a multi-dictionary environment
  • Distributing the completed application

This chapter has a fair bit of explanatory text covering each of the key topics.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Web Client First Run On A Client

Microsoft Dynamics GPOver the last few posts, I’ve covered the installation of the Web Client Runtime, added the IIS role, created a self-signed certificate, installed the Web Client, ran the Configuration Wizard, and installed the GP Resource Web Cache. Now it is time to run the Web Client for the first time to ensure required components are installed on a client; I’m installing a new demo machine so I know one component won’t be installed.

Navigate to the address if the site hosting the Web Client. In the case when you have a self-signed security certificate (which I would only advise for demo or test systems) you will be presented with a warning that the site may not be safe; this is the one time I will recommend to someone that they go against the browser’s advice and click Continue to this website (like my credit card company, MBNA, who have a site with an invalid certificate, going on for six years now, and have the security team advise people to accept the invalid certificate and proceed);

How To Install Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Web Client: Installing The GP Web Resource Cache

Microsoft Dynamics GPWith the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client installed and configured the Web Client is now available for use. However, there is one final additional product which can be installed from the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 setup utility and that is the GP Web Resource Cache which improves performance by enabling web client caching.

On a multi-machine deployment the GP Web Resource Cache should be installed on each Session Host machine.

DynamicAccounting.net has moved to DynamicAccounting.net

Microsoft Dynamics GPOkay not actually as confusing as the title suggests but Mark Polino has migrated hs blog from Blogspot to Wordpress and now has the address www.DynamicsAccounting.net pointing to the blog so update your bookmarks and go to the new site for his regular updates on happenings in the Dynamics GP community.

Mark has kept a theme very similar to the one on the Blogspot version so you should be able to adapt to the new site and keep up to date without any problems.

It also marks another GP blog using Wordpress along with Victoria Yudin, Ian Stewart, Vaidy Mohan, Sivakumar Venkataraman and I.

Review of Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications – Part 3

Microsoft Dynamics GPAfter slacking off a lot in terms of reviewing Leslie Vail’s book Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications, which was published at the end of December by Packt Publishing, I’m going to try to get a regular tempo of review posts going. Today I’m here with the review for chapter 4;

Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications by Leslie Vail

This chapter is all about Building the User Interface which Leslie does by getting the reader to build an interface for customer contacts integration and covers:

  • Creating base resources
  • Creating tables and keys
  • Creating forms and windows
  • Creating scrolling windows
  • Working with window fields
  • Completing your windows

So from this chapter I expect to get a good grounding in creating an entirely new window which should look like this:
