Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Series Index

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 was released at the end of May. As I mentioned at the time, I was away from home for work and rather busy otherwise so this series of posts has been somewhat delayed.

However, I am now getting my hands on GP 2015 R2 and thought I would do my usual set of posts on the installation of the various components and also the usage of the new functionality. This is going to be quite a long series of posts, so keep checking back regularly.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 Now Available

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft appear to have snuck this one out on the quiet, as I haven’t seen any announcements.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 is now available to download from CustomerSource (login required).

It has a release date of 29/05/2015 so it looks to have been released on Friday. I wish I had known about it as I could have spent time over the weekend taking a look. Unfortunately, I am away for work until Saturday afternoon and then the neighbours have their 40th wedding anniversary party so it may be a while until I can download it.

I’ll be trying to download it from the hotel. But unless the hotel Wi-Fi is far better than I expect, you will have to take a look for me and report back.

New Book On Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow 2.0 Available Now

Microsoft Dynamics GPMy fourth book is now available to buy in eBook format from azurecure Publishing.

Dynamics GP includes a variety of tools and modules to assist in controlling processes and data; one of the major modules for this was the Dynamics Workflow module. However, this module had major flaws which very much limited its usefulness; it was slow, clunky and difficult to install, configure and maintain.

Roadmap for Microsoft Dynamics GP

Microsoft Dynamics GPI’m not sure where I got this image from, but roadmaps for Microsoft Dynamics GP seem to be fairly thin on the ground so I figured I’d do a post.

Roadmap for Microsoft Dynamics GP

Part of the reason for posting this, is that I have had a few conversations with prospects looking to move to a new ERP who have asked about the future of Dynamics GP and quoting competitors who have talked about doubts of its long term longevity.

This is all FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) relating back to the Project Green of 2007/2008 which was a plan to Microsoft to unify their ERPs into one product. It is also a plan that was abandoned back in 2008, but the fact it existed at one point is still used being used by competitors to try to blacken the name and future of Dynamics GP.

As you can see from the roadmap, above, there are plans for fairly rapid releases of Dynamics GP which include much new functionality (including a rewritten Web Client in HTML5 after the 2015 R2 release).

The Convergence conference also saw an announcement that Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 was due in late May or early June. As the RTM came out at the start of December 2014, this would align with the discussed 6 month release schedule.

Microsoft will soon be releasing details on the new features available in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2, so keep an eye out for that.
