Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Set Up Drill Down

However, I am now getting my hands on GP 2015 R2 and thought I would do my usual set of posts on the installation of the various components and also the usage of the new functionality. This is going to be quite a long series of posts, so keep checking back regularly.

After installing the Trusted Configuration, you can then set up drill down to allow drill downs to more detailed information. Do this by clicking of the yellow triangle and black exclamation mark icon in the bottom right:

To get the most out of the Microsoft Dynamics GP web client, there are a couple of add-ons which need to be deployed. The first of these is the Trusted Application; this is what allows the web client to interact with Excel or Word.

To install the Trusted Application click the small globe icon next to the blue question mark icon in the bottom right corner of the browser window and then click on Install Trusted Application:

Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Web Client First Run

However, I am now getting my hands on GP 2015 R2 and thought I would do my usual set of posts on the installation of the various components and also the usage of the new functionality. This is going to be quite a long series of posts, so keep checking back regularly.

The eighth post, overs the first run of the web client. In this case I am logging into the web client on the server it is installed onto, but on a live system you would need to repeat these steps on each client machine.

Launch your choice of Silverlight-enabled web browser, I am using Internet Explorer, and enter the path of the web client, which will be something like http://2015r2.2015r2.azurecurve.localdomain/GP.

Enter your Windows Domain User Name and Password:

Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Install the GP Web Resource Cache

In this seventh post, I am going to install the GP Web Resource Cache which is used to improve the performance of the web client by using caching.

To install the GP Web Resource Cache start the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 setup utility by launching the setup.exe in the downloaded installation media; under Additional Products click on GP Web Resource Cache:

Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Install System Database

The second post in this series, covers the installation of the System database. This is the database which holds the deployed companies and security configuration amongst oither items. To install the System database, run GP Utilities from the Start screen.

Despite what seems to be a regular argument I seem to have with Infrastructure people, you must log into GP Utilities using the sa account in order to be able to install the System database (no “ifs”, no “buts”; it must be sa):

Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2: Install The Client

However, I am now getting my hands on GP 2015 R2 and thought I would do my usual set of posts on the installation of the various components and also the usage of the new functionality. This is going to be quite a long series of posts, so keep checking back regularly.

The first post covers the installation of the client. I am doing this installation on a brand new virtual machine built specially for this series of posts; if you are using an existing machine then the prerequisite installation may be somewhat different.

To install the client, run the setup.exe on the downloaded installation files. This will launch the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 Bootstrapper Setup: Click Install to begin the installation of the prerequisites:
