SOP Blank Invoice Form Word Template Not Working

Microsoft Dynamics GPI was configuring up a test system a short time ago and found that the Sales Documents (specifically the SOP Blank Invoice Form) were producing into IE rather than Word when I printed them.

The problem was caused by the VAT Daybook being installed. VAT Daybook provides alternative versions of the standard SOP reports which do not work with the Word Template Email functionality. To have the invoices send via Word, I had two choices; make a Word Template version of the SOP Blank Invoice Form or, and as this was only a test system my preferred choice, to change a setting to use the standard SOP template rather than the VAT Daybook one.

To do this, open Alternative/Modified Forms and Reports (Microsoft Dynamics GP menu » Tools » Setup » System), set Product to VAT Daybook and restrict the Type to Reports;

Alternative/Modified Forms and Reports

In the scrolling window, expand SOP Blank Invoice Form and SOP Blank History Invoice Form and mark the Microsoft Dynamics GP option under both.

After saving these changes, the SOP Blank Invoice Form successfully produced to Word.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 SP2 Has Been Released

Microsoft Dynamics GPAfter an initial announcement back in July that service pack 2 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 was scheduled for release in Q4 this year, I am amazed that it was released yesterday. When it was talked about as Q4 I imaged that meant later in Q4 as Errol Schoenfish said there will be a Feature of the Day series running in September so I assumed (which is bad) that this meant the release would follow rather than precede these posts.

The Dynamics GP Support and Services Blog has full details of the new service pack.

The new DVD can be downloaded by Partners or Customers (with relevant PartnerSource or CustomerSource logins).

Or if you want the service pack only, Partners or Customers (with relevant PartnerSource or CustomerSource logins).

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 SP2 Announced for Q4

Microsoft Dynamics GPA few days ago, Errol Schoenfish on the Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog announced the forthcoming Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 SP2 (or H2 as he named it) for Q4 of the 2013 calendar year.

The part of the announcement which surprised me was the announcement that there would be a “Feature of the Day” starting in September; I thought that, usually, “Feature of the Day” only occurred for major releases and not service packs. Let me say though: this is not a complaint!

In SP2 the Web Client will see the see releases for the Project, Manufacturing and Field Service series as well as the expansion of ISV Extensibility to allow Visual Studio forms to be presented in the Web Client in the same way as Dexterity forms.

Document Attach will be extended to allow attachments to be included in emails and to allow documents attached to cards to be rolled down to the transactions. So a terms and conditions file attached to a customer record could be rolled down to the sales invoices and attached to the email.

One really nice feature is the ability in SmartList to hide the navigation tree; here’s hoping this is a button on the toolbar to quickly expand and shrink the nav pane.

There are additional features so far announced in the blog post including an update to the Windows 8 Business Analyzer app to rewrite it in HTML5 and JavaScriptto allow, amongst other new features, the inclusion of reports from Management Reporter.

For full details of the announcment check the original blog post.

Management Reporter 2012 Install Error – Invalid sa Password

Microsoft Dynamics GPI was recently on site with a client doing an upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 to 2013 and implementing Management Reporter 2012 to replace FRx 6.7.

The upgrade of Dynamics GP to 2013 went through without issue, once I sorted out the overlapping periods which are no longer allowed (I hope Microsoft will be updating the exam question), but I ran into an issue with Management Reporter.

When I was entering the details for the SQL Server I got an error that the password provided was incorrect. I reentered it and got the same error and then entered it a third time very slowly and carefully. Again, it was rejected.

Now because I was onsite and therefore using a customer supplied password there was every possibility that I had entered it incorrectly. I verified the password with the customer and then copied and pasted it in from Notepad so that I was certain it was correct, but it was, again, rejected.

It was at this point a memory fired that someone had recently told me about this. I checked emails I’d received a few weeks ago and found the answer in one from Andrew Cooper, my former colleague. The problem is when Enforce password policy in Microsoft SQL Server is enabled for the user account.

This should not be a problem, but with Management Reporter 2012 RU4 it is because the password is verified against SQL Server as each letter is typed in order to populate the database selection box and if the password policy is being enforced then the user account gets locked out after the third letter. I haven’t had a change/remembered to test this against RU5.

After unlocking the user account via SQL Server Management Studio, I copied and pasted the password into the Management Reporter Configuration window and was able to progress with the installation.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook Has Been Published

Microsoft Dynamics GPIn October last year I started work with Packt Publishing on an updated version of the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 Cookbook by Mark Polino. The new book is the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook and I was told by the publisher earlier this week that it has been published;

How To Install Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Software Development Kit

Microsoft Dynamics GPEven if you’re not a developer, say you’re writing reports, the Software Development Kit (SDK) can still be very useful as it includes a lot of information on, for example, the tables in Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Unlike a lot of the other products which ship with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, the SDK is not available to install from the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 setup utility. Instead to install it, you need to use Windows Explorer to navigate to the /Tools/SDK/Dynamics GP folder on the installation media and double click the SDK.exe;

Windows Explorer - /Tools/SDK/Dynamics GP
