A source code in Business Central indicates where an entry was created, allowing you to see if an entry came from a journal, purchase invoice, sales order and so on. Each posting type in the system has a specific source code which is assigned when the entry is created.

Over the next few articles, I’ll cover how to create and maintain source codes in the system, but also why and how you can use alternative source codes.

The 14th of the new functionality in the section is submit IRS 1099 forms electronically to IRIS.

Save time and reduce cost by electronically submitting IRS1099 forms through the IRIS platform directly from Business Central.

Microsoft announced new IRS 1099 reporting features in 2024 release wave 1. Now, Microsoft are providing additional features for 1099 form submissions via API integrations. With the integration of the IRIS platform, you can submit IRS 1099 forms electronically, saving significant time and reducing costs. This seamless integration eliminates the need for manual data entry and the associated administrative burden, so you can focus more on other important business activities. The integration with the IRIS platform streamlines the entire filing process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IRS regulations.

By leveraging this feature, you can efficiently manage your tax reporting obligations directly within Business Central, enhancing productivity and minimizing the risk of errors or delays. This capability is particularly valuable for businesses that want to optimize operational efficiency and maintain compliance with tax authorities.

Microsoft have updated their demonstration data to make it easier to test and demo new features in sustainability when necessary.

Microsoft added the following features to the Sustainability Demo Data tool:

  • Enabled sustainability features in purchase documents.
  • Added a new vendor and item related to carbon credits.

  • Included details for carbon fee and CO2 equivalent calculations.
  • Added new statistical accounts and journal for social and governance.
  • Created a scorecard and goals.
  • Introduced a new ESG example in financial reports.

New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 Wave 2: Analyze Fixed Asset And Subscription Billing In Power BI

The 24th of the new functionality in the section is analyze fixed asset and subscription billing in Power BI.

Reporting and analysis are key tasks for CFOs, controllers, and finance departments. Microsoft are increasing their reporting capabilities by adding new Power BI apps that let business decision makers analyze data in more areas in Business Central.

Feature Details

Six new Power BI apps are available for finance, sales, inventory, purchase, projects, and manufacturing to enable you to run reports and do data analyses in these areas. Microsoft are also providing Power BI apps that you can use to get insights into data about your fixed assets and subscription billing. Microsoft’ll continue to add new capabilities to the apps throughout 2024 release wave 2.

My Opinion

It’s good to see additional reporting being made available for Business Central as it has always seemed light out of the box.

New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 Wave 2: Stay Current With Shopify Connector

The 23rd of the new functionality in the section is stay current with Shopify connector.

The latest update for the Shopify connector includes changes introduced by Shopify, such as dual-level risk assessments, accurate weight management, and new product information management. In addition, Microsoft have also added multiple enhancements based on received feedback.

Feature Details

Shopify releases a new API version every three months at the beginning of the quarter and supports each version for 12 months. These API releases might bring bigger changes—that’s why it’s important to uptake Shopify API versions in major releases of Business Central. Typically, new versions of APIs increase stability and security, and enable additional capabilities. Starting with this release, the Shopify connector uses the Shopify API that was released in July 2024.

Word Template Mail Merge in Business Central: Send Email Using a Word Template as an Attachment

Another feature of the Word Template functionality in Business Central is that they can be applied when emails are being created to the sent; the Word template can be used either to populate the body of the email or be added as an attachment.

In the previous article, I showed how a Word Template could be applied as the message body of an email, but you can also apply them as an attachment to the email.

To do this, open the send email function from a master record, such as a vendor and click the Add file from Word template action in the Attachments section:

Word Template Mail Merge in Business Central: Create Mail Merge from a Business Central Entity using a Word Template

As well as mail merging the Word template from the Word Templates (9989) page, you can also do it from the master record page (or related list page).

In this article, I am showing the process from the Vendor List (27) page where I have selected a few of the vendors to include; on the Word Templates page you can apply filters within the mail merge wizard, but from the entity pages, you select the records first.

When you have the records you want, click the Actions » Apply Word Template action:
