Extended texts can be added to G/L Accounts for use on sales and purchase transactions. To add an Extended Text to a G/L account, open the account card and then click the Related » Account » Other » Extended Texts action:

Using Extended Texts In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: What are Extended Texts?

Extended Texts can be used to add additional description or text to items, stock-keeping units, general ledger accounts and resources in Business Central.

All of these types of data allow descriptions to be added, but are typically limited to a maximum of one or two hundred characters. Sometimes, however, a longer description is required, and extended texts is how Business Central allows you to manage these extended descriptions.

Multiple extended texts of unlimited number of lines, although each line is limited to 100 characters, on a record are supported and they can be limited by a start and end date for when they are available; they can also be limited to the type of purchase or sales transaction to which they can be added.

In subsequent posts of this series, I will show how extended texts can be added to records as well as used on transactions in the purchasing and sales modules.

Error Configuring Master Data Management in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

One of the pieces of new functionality introduced in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 1 is Master Data Management which allows you to sync setup and/or master data between companies in the same environment.

We’ve made some use of his functionality on a recent project, but encountered a problem when trying to enable it for the tables and fields we had selected:

You do not have permissions to create or run scheduled tasks

We looked into the issue and identified it as being that I had a partner licence for the clients system and creation and running of job queues is not permitted for this type of licence. The “workaround” is to either have an account on the client system created for the duration of the project and assign it a full Business Central Essentials licence or to have someone from the client do anything which requires a job queue.

Neither of these options is especially useful, but it is a result of a restriction put in place by Microsoft. I’m not sure why the restriction is in place, but it is a very inconvenient one.

Location Error Entering an Assembly Order in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

While working with a client to help them implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central they reported an error to me when trying to process an assembly order in the Assembly Orders (902) page. When they entered the details of the assembly and clicked post, they received an error message:

Location Code must have a value in Item Journal: Journal Template Name=, Journal Batch Name=, Line No.=0. It cannot be zero or empty.

Error Importing Sales Invoice into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Using a Configuration Package: “Attempted to divide by zero”

I was working on a client project recently to help them implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. We encountered an error when using a configuration package to import the customers opening balances as sales invoices.

I haven’t yet covered configuration packages in my In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, how do I… series, but should be doing so fairly soon. Configuration Packages, formerly known as RapidStart, is a tool which allows you to import (or export) data to Business Central from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

We had created a configuration package to update the Gen. Journal Line (81) table which holds the sales journals, selected the fields to import, populated the sheet and run the import, but when we validated the file we were presented with three errors:

There are a number of actions available in Power Automate for Business Central which allow specific actions against the data of Business Central to be performed from within Power Automate.

The 12th action which is available is the Update an image, file or document (V3) one which allows you to update (but not insert) an image, file or document in Business Central. To insert a new image, file or document, you will need to use the Create record V3 action to create the file first and the use this update action to upload the actual image, file or document.

Within a flow, click the add action button; search for Business Central and select the Business Central icon (make sure you select the SaaS one, which is a dark colour instead of the on-premises one which is mainly white):

The 11th action which is available is the Get an image, file or document (V3) one which allows you to extract an mage, file or document from Business Central. This could be useful for things like extracting PDFs of invoices to OneDrive or SharePoint.

There are a number of actions available in Power Automate for Business Central which allow specific actions against the data of Business Central to be performed from within Power Automate.

The 10th action which is available is the Get adaptive card (V3) one which allows you to create an adaptive card which you can use in Teams or elsewhere. This is a new action, introduced in the 2-23 Wave 1 release.
