How To Install Management Reporter 2012 – Server Installation

Microsoft Dynamics GPYesterday, I posted the first in a series of posts on how to install Management Reporter 2012; how to install Management Reporter 2012 — Server Prerequisites. Today I’ll cover the server side of the installation.

The first step is to download the installation package; Microsoft Dynamics Management Reporter 2012 (PartnerSource or CustomerSource login required).

One thing to note about the installation of Management Reporter 2012 is that it has been much simplified over that of Management Reporter 2; some parts have been removed (no separate provider to install) and some has been moved to the new Configuration Console.

How To Install Management Reporter 2012 – Server Prerequisites

Microsoft Dynamics GPWith the release of Management Reporter 2012 I thought it might be worth doing a series of posts on how to install this version.

The server configuration I am using is four separate servers, all running Windows Server 2008 R2, but could easily be installed on one machine, or virtual machine, for use as a test system;

  • Domain Controller (DC1) running the DOMAIN.MSDynamicsERP.co.uk
  • SQL Server (SQL1)
  • Reporting Server (RPT1)
  • Terminal Server (TS1)

All of the installation of Management Reporter server, and the server prerequisites, will be done logged into the Reporting Server (RPT1); the client and initial configuration will be done on the Terminal Server (TS1).

The prerequisites for MR 2012 are very similar to those of Management Reporter 2 which were covered hereThe prerequisites of Management Reporter 2012 differ from Management Reporter 2 in that only the .NET Framework 4 is common between the two versions. The addition that MR 2012 requires is the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable to be installed.

SmartList Wildcards

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Google-fu is weak with this one (this one being me). I read a post ages ago on the subject of SmartList wildcards which looked like it would be really useful, but then, after I’d forgotton the details, couldn’t find it again no matter what searches I tried.

Then, a couple of days ago, Tim Cruickshank, on the Rose Business Solutions blog, posted a few tips and tricks he’d picked up at Convergence, one of which was SmartList Wildcards.

Error Running Integration Manager For The First Time

Microsoft Dynamics GPWell, they do say the old ones are the best. I recently installed Microsoft Dynamics GP on a client site and encountered the below error message when starting Integration Manager for the first time;

Integration Manager - Could not create all default data due to the following error: - Access to path 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics GP\11.0.0.0' is denied.

Cashbook Bank Management – Cash Receipt Entry Oddity

Microsoft Dynamics GPI was reviewing a specification for some development in Microsoft Dynamics GP yesterday and encountered an oddity on one of the supplied screenshots. I was going to add it to the issues list and pass it back to the developer but decided to check the window in GP so I could outline the exact requirements.

It was then that I found the screenshot actually looked exactly like the window.

Hiding The Fabrikam Demo Company Date Warning

Microsoft Dynamics GPWhen doing sales demos or testing I tend to use the Microsoft supplied demo database to save time on rolling my own.

One annoyance in it is the warning message that is displayed when logging into Fabrikam;

Microsoft Dynamics GP - You have chosen to use the sample company, which provides data that you can use to practice procedures or learn nore about the product. When you use this sample company, the date is automatically set to April 12, 2017.

Transferring Opera SpeedDial and Bookmarks Between Computers

You’ve probably noticed in the past that I sometimes use this blog as a repository for information I want to keep available to myself (unfortunately, my memory is not sufficient).

This post, I’m afraid, is for this very purpose and will likely only be useful to myself and the 1% of people in the world who use the Opera web browser.

Whenever I set up a new machine I load Opera and then spend an age transferring bookmarks across by exporting and importing them and setting up the SpeedDial. There is an easier way, however, and that is to simply copy speeddial.ini and bookmarks.adr from %appdata%\Opera\Opera on one machine to the other.

Integration Manager: “Argument ‘Start’ must be greater than zero”

Microsoft Dynamics GPA client doing some work with Integration Manager 10 recently reported the following error when trying to load the VB Script Editor;
