The first of the new functionality in the Adapt faster with Power Platform section is change modification limits for triggering flows and bulk updates.

Processing large datasets in Power Automate or triggering automation when multiple rows have been updated works smoothly, even for larger updates.

Feature Details

Until now, there was a limit of 100 rows in the way that Power Automate flows and Dataverse virtual tables were triggered when multiple rows were changed during a short period of time. This limit may have caused your Power Automate flows to stop reacting to certain rapid changes in data. We’ve now changed the limit from 100 to 1,000, opening up for more advanced scenarios.

My Opinion

I’ve not really had anything to do with Power Automate (in general or with Business Central) as that side of things has, so far, been dealt with by another team, but this seems a reasonable change.

The sixth of the new functionality in the Adapt faster with Microsoft Power Platform section is Use Power Automate To Post Adaptive Card Or Link To Business Central Record.

Being able to blend Power Automate flows into conversations in Microsoft Teams allows for enriching conversations with useful insights.

Feature Details

Microsoft have introduced two new actions in the Business Central connector for Power Automate, which are only avaiable in the cloud offering:

Get URL

• Generates a web client URL to a record.
• Requires standard parameters like environment, company, system ID, and the ID of the page that will be referenced in the URL.
• The generated URL can be used with the Get Adaptive Card action described in the next section.
• Enables scenarios in products such as Outlook and Teams where a clickable URL to a specific record in Business Central is needed. For example, you want to send an email to a colleague with actionable information and a link to a Business Central record.

Get Adaptive Card

• Creates an adaptive card for a provided URL. The card is delivered as a payload to be used with a Teams connector or elsewhere.
• Reuses the adaptive card layout, content, and customizations known from the main product.
• Respects the user permissions while accessing card details.
• Enables more scenarios for integration with Teams where a rich card displaying a Business Central record is needed. For example, you want to post information and a link to a new sales order to an internal Teams channel.

The fifth of the new functionality in the Adapt faster with Microsoft Power Platform section is Remove Modification Limits For Triggering Flows.

Processing large datasets in Power Automate or triggering automation when multiple rows have been updated works smoothly, regardless of a business’s size. Removing limitations was the idea behind this feature.

Feature Details

Until now, there were limits to the way that Power Automate flows and Dataverse Virtual Tables were triggered when multiple rows were changed during a short period of time. Microsoft have removed those limits, and updated the way the Power Automate connector communicates with the Business Central API layer to open up for more advanced scenarios.

My Opinion

While admittedly now with Dynamics BC, I’ve worked with a few clients who have had a lot of problems due to the volume of approvals which need to be processed, so it is good to see that improvements are being made around it and approvals with Power Automate.

Advanced and flexible approval workflows don’t need to be complex. Business owners or decision makers can choose from multiple templates when they set up approval workflows in Business Central.

Feature Details

Business Central online customers who use Power Automate to run document approval workflows are able to do so easily with this release. Several actions linked to workflow approvals and Power Automate have been improved with additional support for selecting one of many templates for each document type. Users and decisions makers can use Power Automate to run approval and take advantage of the rich experience:

• Define workflows tied to a selected Business Central environment and company.
• Approve documents using mobile devices.
• Approve documents using Microsoft Teams.
• Support a chain of approvers and additional input.

The first of the new functionality in the Adapt faster with Microsoft Power Platform section is Use Business Events To Notify And Trigger External Systems.

Business events provide partners and customers a mechanism for notifying and triggering their external systems from the Business Central application, so their systems can react and perform actions in response. For example, they can use Power Automate to subscribe to events on Business Central and react on other Dynamics 365 and partner (non-Microsoft) applications.

Feature Details

Business events provide more business context for changes that occur or actions that are performed on Business Central. These changes and actions might involve data CUD (create/update/delete) operations. They often occur or are performed within the familiar business processes, such as “procure-to-pay,” “quote-to-cash,” and so on—the context of which makes it easier for business users and citizen developers to use Power Automate to react and perform actions on external systems in response.

For example, they can create a flow with a Dataverse connector and use the When an action is performed trigger to select the Dynamics 365 Business Central catalog, Quote-to-Cash category, and OnSalesInvoicePosted action/business event, so that the flow will be triggered whenever a sales invoice is posted. The next steps in the flow can then be performed to retrieve and process the invoice—for example, by sending it to a government-regulated e-invoicing service.

The fourth of the new functionality in the Microsoft Power Platform section is Use a Power Automate flow to notify Business Central of Dataverse entity changes.

Getting new data, or updates to existing data, to Business Central quickly is vital in some business scenarios. This is particularly true in scenarios that include integrations to e-commerce systems. Scheduled data synchronization just doesn’t meet the bar in today’s fast-paced world. This capability enables Business Central to immediately pick up data that’s added or changed in Dataverse or Dynamics 365 Sales.

You can now notify Business Central of changes that occur in specific entities in Microsoft Dataverse. To trigger such changes, you’ll need to do the following:

Create a Power Automate automated cloud flow that is triggered when changes are detected in standard or custom entities that are being synchronized.

Use the Power Automate automated cloud flow to notify Business Central by using the dataverseEntityChanges API to create a record. The API is located in microsoft/dataverse/v1.0. When Business Central receives the notification, it will pick up the new or changed records in the entities you’re tracking.

The third of the new functionality in the Microsoft Power Platform section is Switch Power Automate features on or off.

A new Automate group that was introduced in the previous release was hidden under a feature management flag per the standard process.

In this release, the Automate group appears on most pages because the feature flag has been removed. The appearance of the Automate group could lead to questions from administrators and users who aren’t interested in Automate. As a result, a new setting is available to customers that lets them opt out of Automate. Also, individual users can be “opted out” by using a new permission entry for Automate.

When a user signs in to the new company for the first time, this feature displays the Get started with Power Automate action in the Automate” group.

The Get started with Power Automate action opens a new wizard that consists of some onboarding information and links and the necessary privacy notice. When accepted by the administrator, all the users will be able to see the Automate group and actions coming from defined flows.

In addition, an individual user’s access can be controlled by a new system permission Allow Action Automate and a ready-to-use permission set AUTOMATE – EXEC. Revoking this permission from a given user or role will hide the Automate group and prohibit running the actions created with Power Automate.
