It is not possible to create a warehouse pick document by itself; warehouse picks can only be created from a warehouse shipment:

1. In a push fashion, where you use the Create Pick action in the Warehouse Shipment page. Select the lines to be picked and prepare the picks by specifying, for example, which bins to take from and place in, and how many units to handle. Bins can be predefined for the warehouse location or resource.
2. In a pull fashion, where you use the Release action in the Warehouse Shipment page to make the items available for picking. Then, on the Pick Worksheet page, warehouse employees can use the Get Warehouse Documents action to pull their assigned picks.

In this post, I will be covering the first method outlined above; I’ll cover the second method in a future article.

The first level of the advanced warehousing functionality, is to require both a warehouse pick and a warehouse shipment. There are two toggles on the location card which need to be enabled. When you create a location, on the Warehouse fasttab, you need to toggle the Require Shipment and Require Pick options to the on position:

Receiving goods in this way, allows you to pick and ship multiple orders at the same time, instead of one-by-one. In the next article of this series, I’ll step through the process of picking and shipping items into the new YELLOW location, shown above, using a pick and a shipment.

We’ve so far taken a look at inventory picks and required shipments being processed separately. The next level of warehousing moves out of the basic warehousing which we’ve seen so far, into advanced warehousing by combining picks with shipments.

The shipments are the same, but the picks are warehousing picks rather than the inventory ones we looked at in the earlier article.

This configuration of requiring picks and shipments is generally used by larger businesses who require more controls in the warehouse. While in the coming articles, I will just be showing the process using a location, it is commonly used in combination with the use of bins. The only difference between using bins and not, is that in the pick and shipment process, bins will (generally based on setup) default and be changed if necessary.

With a location enabled for requiring receive, we can now the shipment of goods from the warehouse.

There are two methods for using warehouse shipment:

1. Push, which is where a warehouse shipment is created for a single sales order (or other document bringing stock in, such as a purchase return) from the Create Whse. Shipment action on the Sales Order card.
2. Pull, which is where a warehouse shipment is created from the Warehouse Shipments page. This would typically be used when you are shipping goods to a customer from multiple orders.

In this post, I will be stepping through the second of the above methods, but you end up in the same window when you use the action mentioned in the first.

To create a warehouse shipment, search for Warehouse Shipments and click the New button.

Tab from the No. field and select the location for which goods are being shipped and set the Posting Date:

In the last article, I covered SHIPPING items on a PO without a specific receipt requirement; this would generally be used by organisations with smaller warehouses or stockrooms and does not need any configuration on a location.

The next level up in the basic warehousing functionality, is to require a warehouse shipment. There is one toggle which needs to be enabled for a location to require warehouse shipments. When you create a location, on the Warehouse fasttab, you need to toggle the Require Shipment option to the on position:

Receiving goods in this way, allows you to receive multiple orders at the same time, instead of one-by-one. In the next article of this series, I’ll step through the process of receiving items into the new location PINK location shown above.

I have recently, over the last week or so, done some major updates to the site which includes adding the new tables and fields added in the latest release as well as adding more table joins, the option values and more information about the fields.

In this article, I’m going to take a look at how shipments can be entered via the source document. Shipping goods in this way, is done when there is no specific requirement for warehouse processing. This is usually only used by companies operating smaller warehouses or stock rooms.

This configuration is not even part of the basic warehouse functionality as there is nothing on the location which needs to be configured.

When you ships items on a sales order in this default configuration, shipping is as simple as opening the Sales Order page and entering a the quantity of stock being shipped in the Qty. to Ship field; it will default to the remaining amount so you only need to change this if you are shipping less than the remaining amount.

This post is part of the New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2 series in which I am taking a look at the new functionality introduced in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2.

The seventh of the new functionality in the Legislation section is Multiple VAT numbers per customer.

You can use different VAT numbers for customers with warehouses in different countries across the EU.

Feature Details

Customers that have a warehouse in a different EU country must register a new VAT number in the country where the warehouse is located. This results in a customer having more than one VAT number. With this new feature, you can add the VAT number, the VAT business posting group, and the General business posting group to the alternative address for a customer. When you want to send goods to another address, select an alternative ship-to address and the system shows the appropriate VAT number. You will have the option to use different posting groups. This functionality is available for Sales invoices, Sales orders, Sales credit memos, and Sales return orders.

My Opinion

This feature sounds like something which will be of great benefit to customers who hold stock at international locations. One of those things which seems an obvious requirement when you read about it.
