The 1st of the new functionality in the Copilot and AI section is chat with Copilot to learn how to use installed add-on apps.

With 2024 release wave 1, Microsoft introduced chat with Copilot: a conversational experience where people can get assistance from Microsoft Copilot to find data, get unblocked, or learn new skills. Most of Microsoft’s customers install one or more ISV add-on apps from Microsoft AppSource to enhance Business Central with industry-specific solutions, localized functionality, or other critical capabilities that meet their needs. Now, Copilot in Business Central can explain and guide workers through using functionality of these add-on apps, transforming Copilot from a simple “librarian” to an in-house expert that understands your unique Business Central.

Business Central syncs locations with the following settings on the Location Card page:

  • The Use as In-Transit toggle is turned off.
  • Project Consump. Whse. Handling is different from Warehouse Pick (mandatory).

New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Wave 1: Series Index

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralThis post is part of a series on the new functionality available in Wave 1 of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025. There are two release waves for Business Central each year, with functionality being released over the six months of the wave.

In this series of posts, I am going to take a look at what is new with Business Central in this release wave. My understanding is the announced new functionality will become available in the six months of the wave, so not all of it will be available immediately. When posting about some new functionality, I’ll try to indicate where something will be available in April or later. Microsoft do reserve the right to withdraw announced functionality before release; when this happens, I’ll try to publish an article on the removed functionality and update the original article I published.

This series index, below (assuming you’re reading this on ), will automatically update as each post in the series goes live, so make sure you bookmark this post so you can see keep up-to-date with this series.

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Sales), how do I… Manage Relationships Between Customers

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralThis article is part of the In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Sales), how do I… series and of the wider In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, how do I… series which I am posting as I familiarise myself with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Managing relationships between customers is a fairly usual requirement. Common scenarios are when you are dealing with multiple branches of the same company or perhaps a subsidiary. I’ve worked with systems, such as the soon to be end-of-life Microsoft Dynamics GP, which had functionality which could be used to manage these types of relationships.

The question came up from a client recently with whom I am working to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and they sell to multiple branches of the same company and need to manage these relationships separately, in terms of the orders they raise and from whom payment is received.

Depending on how you need to track orders and who will be paying, there are a few options for how to manage the customers in Business Central, but the functionality itself is actually very limited (there are third parties available who have enhanced the parent/child relationship functionality.

In the scenario with which I was dealing, each branch would order and receive goods, but the parent company itself would want to receive the invoices and remit payment; the client also wanted to have a single credit limit for the company, which is shared between the branches, rather than each branch having it’s own credit limit.

Fortunately, this requirement falls squarely within the functionality available in Business Central without needing to make any changes.

On the Customer Card (21) page, on the Invoicing fasttab, you can set the Bill-to Customer to another customer account; this other customer will became the default Bill-to customer on sales transactions as they are entered:

Automate Creation of a New Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Sandbox Environment Every Night

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralComing from a background of working with Microsoft Dynamics GP, I am used to being able to automate the copy of production to test using SQL Server Agent. Since moving to working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central this is not something I’ve been able to automate as Business Central is cloud-based rather than on-premise and we don’t have the same access to the database.

Earlier in December last year, Andrew Wingate published an article on creating a fresh sandbox copy of production every night using Power Automate.

Example Power Automate flow from Peter Wingate

I’ve been doing some work with Power Automate over the last year or so, so this is an interesting approach and one I am going to take a look into when I have time.

Full details are available in Peter’s article.

Error Message “The request was blocked by the runtime to prevent accidental use of production services” in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralI was doing some work with a client recently to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. While testing in a sandbox environment we encountered an issue when trying to email using the Continia Document Output module.

This error is no just with that module, but with any module or functionality which tries to make outward requests; as a security measure the ability to make outward requests is switched off when the sandbox environment is created.
