This article is part of the In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Power Automate Actions), how do I… series, a sub-series of the In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Power Automate), how do I… series and of the wider In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, how do I… series which I am posting as I familiarise myself with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
There are a number of actions available in Power Automate for Business Central which allow specific actions against the data of Business Central to be performed from within Power Automate.
While a Power Automate flow can only have one trigger, a flow will consist of multiple actions. Actions can be from a mix of types, but the Business Central ones will usually have several different ones used.
This is because they each target a different type of action; once a flow has been triggered, you’ll usually want to get the related record (e.g. the vendor to be approved, the item which has been changes), generate the URL for a drill back into Business Central from the approval email or Teams message, and then, perhaps create, delete or update a record. There are very few flows I’ve created which did not use two or (usually) more Business Central actions.
Over this short series of articles, I’ll be taking a look at how each of the actions is added to a flow and configured, but the articles will pretty much stand alone. This is sort of how they’d work in the real work anyway, with parameters from one possibly being used in the other and I will cover the parameters in the articles.
