I was working on a project with a client recently which included implementing the Fixed Asset Management module of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The module was configured, data imported and asset take-on posted and everything looked good.
When delivering training to the key users, I was showing a couple of the reports when I was asked about reporting on only assets held by an individual. This should not have been a problem, as we had configured the Responsible Employee field on the asset cards, so the assets were assigned. However, when I tried to show the Fixed Asset List report we encountered an error.
I added the field as a filter and just typed the name of the user into the box, but when clicking the Preview button, this error appeared:
I did a little checking and found that if I selected the employee from the drop down list box, then the GUID was set into the field and running the report did work, but the employee was also output as the GUID:
I also found that this same error appeared on other reports like the Fixed Asset Details report.
The other thing I found was that this is apparently a known issue, as if you open the Filter field list and scroll down there are actually two Responsible Employee fields available:
The first one, and the one selected by default when you search for Responsible Employee[/b] is the one which handles the employee using the GUID and the second works correctly with the code as entered. To avoid the bug, all you need to do is make sure you select the second of the fields.
What should we write about next?
