I’ve recently been involved with some discussions about approval workflows in Business Central, which were somewhat more complex than the standard workflow allowed.
Fortunately, there is a tool from Microsoft which can be used to extend the approval capabilities of Business Central: Power Automate.
However, Power Automate is much more than just a tool which allows an extension of workflows in Business Central. It is a service which helps you create automated workflows (or flows) between apps and services. Power Automate flows require little or no coding knowledge, making them easier and quicker to create than a normal code extension.
They can be associated with a wide range of events and responses, such as:
- Record changes
- External files updates
- Posted documents
- Different Microsoft and third-party services, like Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Dataverse, Teams, SharePoint, Power Apps, and more.
I will, eventually, be covering the creation of workflow processes or other flows in this series, but it’ll probably take me a while to get there as I go through some of the basics of Power Automate, so make sure to keep an eye on this series.
