New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2: Generate a Customer Statement Only With Open Entries

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralThis post is part of the New Functionality In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2 series in which I am taking a look at the new functionality introduced in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2.

The twenty-seventh of the new functionality in the Application section is Generate a customer statement only with open entries.

Businesses send customer statements to customers in various formats and to serve various purposes. Microsoft have added a new option to the Customer Statement report that can clarify what customers owe you..

Enabled for: Users, automatically
Public Preview: Sep 2023
General Availability: Oct 2023

Feature Details

If you open the Customer Statement report from the Customers list or the role explorer, you’ll find a Style field on the request page. The field offers two options:

  • Balance: Get an overview of outstanding amounts.
  • Open Items: If you choose this option, the report will:
    • Only show open entries within the selected date range.
    • Show a balance for open entries before the start date.
    • Ignore any entries with a posting date that’s after the end date.

My Opinion

While statements are usually produced showing all activity in a specified period, I can see producing one only of open entries would be very useful from a credit control point of view, allowing you to send a statement to a customer of all invoices yet to be paid.

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Inventory and Warehouse Management), how do I… Process a Receipt From the Source Document

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralThis post is part of the In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Inventory and Warehouse Management), how do I… series and of the wider In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, how do I… series which I am posting as I familiarise myself with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

In this article, I’m going to take a look at how receipts can be entered via the source document. Receiving goods in this way, is done when there is no specific requirement for warehouse processing. This is usually only used by companies operating smaller warehouses or stock rooms.

This configuration is not even part of the basic warehouse functionality as there is nothing on the location which needs to be configured.

When you receive items on a PO in this default configuration, receiving is as simple as opening the Purchase Order page and entering a value in two fields:

Firstly, the Vendor Shipment No. field need to be set to the GRN number.

Despite being marked as mandatory, with the red asterisk, the Vendor Invoice No. is not needed for a receipt, only if an invoice is being entered from this window.

Secondly, the Qty. to Receive field set to the qty being received; it will default to the remaining amount so you only need to change this if you are receiving less than the remaining amount.
