In the last article, I took a look at basic inventory which you can use with or without a location, although I do always recommend using locations to future-proof the system.
That is the most basic of configurations on inventory management in Business Central and is used when you don’t need to be tracking stock to specific locations in a warehouse or stock room.
For those Business Central users who do not need, or want, to use bins for stock location management, there is a field on the Item card where you can record the typical location of items of that type; the field is Self No.:
This is only a notational field on the item card which you can set, but which is not used to control or manage anything; the field is free-form text entry which will accept any combination of letters, numbers and symbols, up to ten characters long.
