I started using Vivaldi browser while it was still in beta test and have seen a number of iterations over the years. Most of the changes have been neutral or beneficial, but one of the latest I’ve found very annoying. I first encountered this in April and forgot to post about it, but I’ve been creating some new VMs and have had the same issue again recently so thought I’d post as a reminder.
The issue is that the active tab is darker than the active tabs when you’re using a dark theme. While I like dark themes, I prefer the active tab to be lighter than inactive ones. The previous version of Vivaldi did have a lighter active tab:
When the latest version was installed, the active tab was suddenly darker than the inactive ones:
I’d only installed the new version, I hadn’t made any changes to configuration. I did some exploring of settings and found that the theme settings between versions had had the Apply Accent Colour to Window checkbox marked:
Once I’d unmarked this box, the active tab was again lighter than the others. I assume this is a combination of the dark theme I use for both Windows and Vivaldi coming together to make the tab darker and people running lighter themes won’t see this issue, but at least it’s an easy fix when you remember the location of the setting.
What should we write about next?

Thanks. The latest version is a little different now. You’ll have the click Editor (above) then uncheck “Accent on Window”.
