Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 was released on the 2nd October. In this series of posts, I’ll be going hands on and installing the majority of the components; some of them, such as Analysis Cubes for Excel, which are little used, I won’t be covering.

The series index will automatically update as posts go-live in this series.

With the Fabrikam sample company deployed, we can now log into Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Launch Microsoft Dynamics GP from the start menu and log in; you can usually use either the sa or DYNSA logins. However, if you have the VAT Daybook feature installed, you will need to log in as sa:

Installing TortoiseSVN: Series Index

TortoiseSVNDepending on how much of this blog you read, you might be aware that I have been adding functionality by writing pluginsg for WordPress which I have been publishing via the WordPress Plugin Repository.

I did try writing a blog on my Development site, but that didn’t go too well; pretty much a case of out of sight, out of mind. I have some things I want to blog about, so will be posting them here.

The first of these is an installation of TortoiseSVN which I used to upload/download updates to plugins I’ve developed.

Over the course of this series, I’ll be installing TortoiseSVN, connecting to a plugin repsitory and committing changes made.

Hands On with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2: Installing the .NET Prerequisite

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 was released on the 2nd October. In this series of posts, I’ll be going hands on and installing the majority of the components; some of them, such as Analysis Cubes for Excel, which are little used, I won’t be covering.

Before Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2, or any of the related additional products, can be installed, there is one prerequisite which cannot be handled by the installer process. This is the .NET Framework 3.5 feature which is installed using the Add Roles and Features Wizard available via Server Manager on Windows Server or using Turn Windows features on or off accessible via Program and Features on Windows.

If the PC or server you’re planning to install Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM onto, has an Internet connection, then the .NET can be installed simply by using the wizard. However, if, for whatever reason, you don’t have an Internet connection available, the install process isn’t quite that smooth.

On both server and PC you can do an offline install and I have blogged about this several years ago:

  1. Offline install on Windows.
  2. Offline install on Windows Server.

Both of the above posts were for previous versions of Windows, but both are still relevant for the later versions.

Hands On with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2: Download the Installation Media

Microsoft announced the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 on the 2nd October. I am going to be doing a fresh install of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 and will be using the full installation download.

The installation media is now available for download from Microsoft CustomerSource lock (CustomerSource login required).

If you’re doing an upgrade, the service pack can be downloaded from the CustomerSource service packs page lock (CustomerSource login required).

I found the download ran both quickly and smoothly, but others have reported some issues with the download. I assume this is to do with the volume of downloads just after release and should settle down fairly quickly.

Hands On with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2: Series Index

Microsoft Dynamics GPWith the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2, it is time to get hands on again. Whenever a new version comes out, I step through installing all (or the majority) or the products available.

Over the coming days, I’ll be performing all of the installations and posting step-by-step guides to them. The series index, below, will automatically populate* as each of the posts goes live.

MDGP 2018 R2 Feature of the Day: Email POP PO Other Form

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series Feature of the Day posts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 on which I am following and adding commentary. The series index for this series of posts is here.

The twenty-sixth Feature of the Day is Email POP PO Other Form.

In the Purchase Order Entry window the Email button now has both the Blank Paper and Other Form so you can choose between them when sending the purchase order to the vendor.

Purchase Order Send Email Options

I like this feature of the day. I have a number of clients who want to be able to toggle bewteen two different PO formats for the same creditor; this feature will give them the ability to do so once they have a suitabler Word template created.

MDGP 2018 R2 Feature of the Day: Purchase Requisition Partial Purchase

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series Feature of the Day posts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 on which I am following and adding commentary. The series index for this series of posts is here.

The twenty-fifth Feature of the Day is Purchase Requisition Partial Purchase.

When creating a purchase order from a purchase requisition you now have the option to change the quantity on the PO. For example, if the purchase requisition has a quantity of 100, when the PO is created you can change that quantity to a lower quantity, such as 90. The remaining quantity is then canceled on the purchase order.

Purchase Orders Preview

I’m somewhat split on whether I think this is a good addition. If you want fewer items then the purchase requisition should be raised for the smaller quantity; on the other hand, being able to purchase fewer when creating rthe purchase order, gives more flexibility.
