On the Windows Team Blog Steven Rose has posted a reminder that only 999 days of support remain for the now rather venerable Windows XP.
…reality is trophies get dusty, records are broken, and what it took to be the best ten years ago, just isn’t enough for today’s standards. Things get better, faster. And eventually, it’s time to move from good enough to something much better.
That time is coming in 999 days when extended support for XP officially ends and the security updates stop coming, leaving those still using the OS vulnerable to security threats and, increasingly, many third party software suppliers are not supporting XP with their new product releases and are dropping support in existing versions when service packs or patches are released.
Windows 7, released in 2009 is a capable successor to XP and has sold more than 400 million licenses, as announced by Steve Ballmer, since it’s release.
